In an hour or two you can see parts of the bay, as well as the beautiful habitat that motor boaters cannot. But it doesn’t have to stop there!

We
Had A Great White Water Rafting Trip!
We had a Great Weekend at Wilderness Tours on the Ottawa River, August 11-13, 2000.
We
had Sunny Skies: It rained a bit on Friday
on the drive up but by Saturday all the rain
had gone away. We had a warm, sunny day as we
all headed to a buffet breakfast and prepared
for a day of great rafting! Soon we were on
a bus anticipating our arrival at the raft launch
area. We put on our life jackets (Navy approved),
helmets and grabbed a paddle. We were briefed
on what to expect and how to paddle then we
were off. Paddling down the mighty Ottawa River.
White
Water!: We approached our first rapid. See
the picture with 12 people and a guide in a
raft. This is the first rapid of the day. We
all followed Becky's (our Guide) Commands and
had no swimmers (people who fell out of the
raft)nor did we flip over. Cheers from all were
heard! Maybe this wasn't so hard to do after
all!
Snack
on the river and Cliff Jumping: Turned out
to be lunch for most of us. While a brave Nik
and Rick body surfed in the rapids. After a
strong swim to shore they dragged themselves
up to the picnic tables for a bite to eat. They
proclaimed that it was fun and daring to challenge
the rapids. We finished our "snack"
and hurried into the rafts for more fun and
adventure. After a few more rapids we stopped
again and parked the rafts. We all climbed up
a hill to Cliff Jump into the river below. Most
of our group jumped - even a scared Linda braved
it. We lept off of a cliff and fell for what
felt like hundreds of feet into the swirling
water below. When you surfaced you swam to the
edge with others cheering you on and encouraging
you to swim hard! What a Rush!
Upon
Arrival back at the PQ (our base camp) - found
us hungry again and ready for our video of our
trip down the river. After we decided to check
out some of the activities such as: Volleyball,
Bungee Jumping, Kayaking, Hot Tubs & Pool, Almost
Life Size Chess, Hockey and lots of other great
things! About this time Michelle was realizing
that she got burnt to a crisp. She was unable
to join in with Nik and Betty on a game of volleyball.
Nik played and went on to the championship game!
We had a full moon for the weekend and several
of us enjoyed a moonlit walk on the beach. Soon
it was bed time.
Sunday
Morning turned out to be yet another perfect
day! : Today we would embark on a journey
down the middle channel of the Ottawa River
in a raft with only our group of 8 and no guide
(other than Betty and Michelle). Soon the yelling
and arguing started about how to guide the raft
as our small group spun this way and that down
the river. Didn't take too long, though, before
Betty and Michelle had the raft under control.
See the picture of our group of 8 in our raft
on day 2 down the Ottawa! We had a great lunch
on the river bank. We went swimming (voluntarily)
and body surfing in the rapids. Bubs and Michelle
decided to swim to a small island and claim
it for their own - untill they were yelled at
by a kayaker. Soon they were picked up by the
rest and headed on down the river. Nik and Rick
gave their try at guiding after lunch and Linda
bravely decided to guide the boat after much
encouraging for the last stretch. After that
we said goodbye to the Ottawa River and loaded
the bus for our ride back to the base area.
We watched our video, purchased our pictures
and packed up to go home. It took a long 6 hours
to get home but we all decided it was worth
it. We had a great time and the weekend was
beautiful. Maybe next year we can have more
people join us!
Join us for another AWESOME White Water Rafting Trip! See Michelle for
details!
